Surely, everybody has heard of the Big Apple. Crowded,
fast-paced, bustling with life and energy, New York City has made a remarkable
dent in global commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology,
education, and entertainment. It houses the ever-famous Empire State Building,
Brooklyn Bridge, and Central Park. But more than just a commerce hub, one place
in this bustling city has become an iconic world landmark and a pictogram of
New York and the United States – The Times Square.
Dubbed as "The Crossroads of the World" and
"The Great White Way," the Times Square is the New Year’s Eve party
hub, the social scene, and the entertainment district. It is known for its many
Broadway theatres, cinemas and super signs. The square bustles with light and
movement. Scrolling
LED signs are visible in almost all the busy streets of New York, most
prominently displayed in the Square. LED signs, electronic message boards, LED
displays are just about everywhere.
Mind you, these electronic displays and scrolling LED signs are not a
nuisance. In fact, the busy lights from LED
signs have indeed made New York City a city that never sleeps.
During the First World War, Times Square was the heart of
the Theater district and fascinated a large number of tourists. This made the
square a perfect place for billboards. In 1917, the first large electric
display billboard was installed.
Years later, the first running electric sign was let for the first time,
to announce Herbert Hoover's victory in the Presidential elections. The
billboards have become such a tourist attraction, that they now require that
the buildings be covered with billboards.
Buildings now wear signs as a second skin; hence scrolling LED signs are
such a hit!
LED technology has undeniably brought this city to a whole
new level. Today, buildings around the square are covered with LED signs. Open LED
signs inform passersby of shops that are open in the wee hours of the
night. Scrolling LED signs help
tourists find the best restaurants, obey traffic rules, get updated with what’s
happening globally and a whole lot more information that they need to know.
Visit New York and experience “the nightlife” even during
daytime.
