LED Lighting of the Future: Apple and Philips Jointly Offers the Hue


Technology innovators Apple and Philips team up to offer a cutting edge LED lighting solution for every home. We can’t help but think about the possibility of having an automated digital scrolling LED sign

The Philips Hue is an 8.5 watt bulb that produces an impressive 600 Lumens of light. This state-of-the-art lighting solution is exclusively offered in Apple Stores both online and offline. With this partnership, a strong push for the energy-efficient LED lighting is seen to be encouraged for household use.  

Hue carries the common advantages of using LED lights which include energy savings and prolonged lifespan. On top of that, these lighting fixtures can be fully controlled through iOS and Android mobile applications. The said app performs more than the basic on/off functionalities since it can also control the bulbs for mood lighting of red, blue, orange, yellow and white shades. But an Electronics Weekly article mentioned Philips’ statement that the app comes with 4 pre-programmed light settings that are based on the biological effects of lighting on the body.

According to the Mac Observer site, here are other unique features of the Hue bulbs according to Philips

A starter kit is sold by Apple at $ 199. The kit includes 3 Hue bulbs, a LAN cable and a ZigBee Light Link bridge. Additional bulbs are also available for $ 56 per piece. The ZigBee-Ethernet bridge box can accommodate up to 50 bulbs can be plugged into a home’s WiFi modem or router.
