Sheltering your LED Signs from the Cold

Hello there!

It’s been a while since the last time we posted something here on our blog. Apparently, we had to take care some other LED-related business over the course of fall and winter season, and for that we apologize!

But now that we’re back, we will continue to “light up” your stores yet again! And since we said something about the winter, we all know how extremely damaging, not to mention dangerous it is to casually leave your store sign as is this time of the year, especially with all those blizzards and hazardous conditions brought by the winter, making it hazardous and unsafe for you, store owners to operate electric-powered machineries – digital open signage included.

On this blog post, we’ll be giving you tips on how to safeguard and shelter your LED signs from the cold.

Plug-Unplug – Albeit the fact that LED-powered store signs are energy efficient and consumes electricity significantly lesser than other signage, it doesn’t make it less dangerous, especially when it directly contacts moisture/water brought by winter’s extreme cold. Make it a point to unplug your store signs – and same goes for electric powered-equipment – when not in use. Additionally, check first the plug and outlets for possible moisture accumulation before inserting anything on the wall socket.

Inside Job – There are other store owners who prefer to install their signage outside the shop. This is quite understandable, since some stores don’t have the luxury of space and strategic location. On the other hand, it is still advisable to transfer your signage some place else. If this is out of the question, then ensure that the power supply of your outside signage is well-protected from severe weather condition. As for window signs, better take them off as well in the case that your store window might break in the midst of any natural calamity.

Check for Worn Out Wires and Cables – This procedure is pretty much basic and recommended to do every once in a while, even if it’s not Mr. Snowman’s season. Worn out wires and exposed copper threads can cause serious accidents such as electric shock or equally worse, fire. In the case you’ve encountered a rubber tear on your store sign’s cable, immediately unplug it then cover the exposed thread using electrical tape. For immediate repair, you may bring it to your trusty electrician or contact your LED sign dealer for possible warranty.

Don’t Do DIY Repairs if you Don’t Know How – A basic rule of thumb to all DIYers. Some components of a certain LED signage may be a little bit complex than what you expect. If you’re not that familiar with the sign’s mechanisms and components, then we suggest to call an expert electrician to check the display, as well as the amperes, polarity and other electric requisites of your LED display.

A Comparison of LED Vs. Neon Signs For Businesses

Find out which sign is right for your business with this quick guide. Signage plays a very important role in attracting customers and reinforcing your brand. Whether you're opening a storefront, a bar, or a restaurant, choosing between a programmable LED sign and a neon sign can impact visibility, cost, and maintenance. Scrolling LED signs use significantly less power than traditional neon signs. They operate at a lower voltage and require minimal electricity, reducing utility costs. Neon signs, on the other hand, rely on high-voltage transformers to keep gas-filled tubes glowing, leading to higher energy consumption. If you're lo...
