Is your LED sign icky and dusty? Here are a few cleaning tips to help you make it look brand new again.
Whether it's an outdoor or an indoor LED sign, it's bound to get dusty and dirty. This is especially so if you own an outdoor one and you are located in states like Nevada and California, or in any busy city. Cleaning these signs may be a chore, but with our simple guide, making them look new again would be a piece of cake.
Here are some six steps in cleaning your scrolling LED sign:
1. Prepare your cleaning materials.
Before you start cleaning the sign, make sure that your materials are ready. You will need the following:
- Microfiber cloth or towels
- Cotton swabs
- Spray bottle filled with water
- LED screen cleaning solution (the one used for cleaning LED TV panels)
- Feather duster
2. Unplug the unit.
Safety first! Electrical hazards are definitely not good, so always make sure that all the LED signs that you are about to clean are already unplugged.
3. Uninstall the sign.
This is optional. If the LED sign is within reach, there is no need to unmount it from where it's installed. However, if it's placed in a high area, it's recommended to uninstall it first. Again, this is for your safety.
4. Wipe the surface.
Get one of your clean microfiber towels and spray with an ample amount of water. Start with wiping the surface or the front panel, as well as the sign's casing. If it has tough dirt, do not apply too much pressure. Instead, use your handy-dandy cleaning solution. Get a clean and dry microfiber towel and spray with the solution. Gently wipe the surface.
5. Clean the hard-to-reach areas.
Next is to move on to the corners, edges, and other hard-to-reach areas of the sign. Get a cotton swab, spray it with water, and gently clean the hard-to-reach places. These are usually the areas with accumulated dust and dirt, so make sure to clean them thoroughly as well.
6. Dry then dust.
Once you're sure that all the dirt, fingerprints, and stubborn grime are gone, it's time to dry your LED sign. Gently wipe with another clean and dry microfiber towel. As for the hard-to-reach areas, use a fresh cotton swab to wipe them dry. Finally, use your soft feather duster to make sure that any excess dust and lint are gone.
And voila! Your sign looks new again! Carefully mount it back to where it's installed initially and plug it back. If it does not light up, you can check out our article on troubleshooting tips.
