For newbie entrepreneurs, every penny counts, and if there’s a way to save money while getting their business off the ground, then they will immediately grab that opportunity. So we’re here to help.

Yes, it is possible to come up with a great looking digital signage even if you’re applying cost-cutting measures. One just has to be extra creative when thinking about what look or content you would want for your advertisements.

Follow our tips below and apply it to your future scrolling LED sign displays, digital billboards, and the like.

Get inspired by existing designs

The reality is that inspiration can be found everywhere, and you can use ideas from your surroundings or existing works to come up with something that will be right for your establishment. The nighttime, in particular, provides you with the perfect opportunity to see actual LED signs and neon billboards in all their glory, so use that chance well. Look to colors and concepts that excite you and base your ideas off of them.

We must emphasize, however, that the keyword here is “inspire” – plagiarism is a big no-no.

Put your ideas to paper using a mood board

After getting inspired by the elements, you’re probably bursting now with ideas for your company’s signages. The next step is to make those ideas more cohesive via a mood board. A mood board is essentially a tool used by designers to make sense of their ideas by putting together visual elements to help them create creative works. This could be a collage featuring pictures, words and phrases, colors, and typography. It serves as a base point that a designer (or team of designers) would always go to when creating their works.

You can do it the old way and use an actual board or wall to create one, or use apps like Pinterest to create a digital mood board. Remember our first tip? Take lots of pictures during your exploration so you can fill up your board with inspiring images.

Get your team involved in the process

As a start-up, your team may be lean at the moment. But that affords the company the flexibility to enjoin the employees to pitch in their ideas during brainstorming. You can talk amongst yourselves about your company’s image and how it could be projected through your signages. Listen to the team’s input during brainstorming, then find that one or two employees who can execute those ideas well.

This process may go on several phases, which is perfectly fine as ideas may change or designs may need tweaks.

Go online and use it to your advantage

There is a wealth of information and applications to be found on the internet. You can use Canva, which you can use for free (with limitations) to create and layout your designs. You can also look up possible suppliers online and discover what type of LED signs and lighting options are out there. Would a simple scrolling LED sign suffice, or would multi-colored LED strips be the better choices for your design? Because you are on a budget, price points are crucial, so look for a supplier that offers quality products at an affordable price.
