Make your workspace sustainable by going green.
The pandemic has made many businesses reduce expenses. Instead of letting go of staff or dissolving a department, you can resort to go low on energy usage instead. Not only will you save money, but you will also make your business environmentally responsible and sustainable.
There are easy ways to go green; here are some that you can apply to your workplace:
Brief your employees on saving energy.
Before you make changes in the workplace, it is crucial to train members of your staff to conserve power firsthand. As the saying goes, change starts with people. Make it a rule to switch off and unplug their computers after their shift, recycle papers as scratch papers, and use natural lighting whenever possible. Be firm with these rules, so all staff members will be encouraged to comply.
Replace fluorescent or incandescent lighting with LED lighting.
If your workplace is still using fluorescent or incandescent lights, upgrade to LED immediately. Light-emitting diodes use less power and emit almost no heat at all. If you have programmable LED signs, maximize their use by using them as complementary lighting instead of turning on other lights.
Invest in energy-saving appliances.
Replace your old, energy-hungry appliances with new, energy-saving ones. For instance, get ACs that use inverter technology and a pantry fridge with an energy-star rating. Laptops are more energy-saving than desktop computers, so consider making the switch if the budget allows.
Lessen the use of paper.
Send emails or private messages to co-workers instead of sending sticky paper notes. As for announcements, you can also use a scrolling LED sign or a writable LED board to display them. Doing so will give you less waste as well.
Control the thermostat.
During spring and summer, keep your office one temperature up, then one degree down during the winter. Doing so can lessen power outage by up to 10%. You can also purchase a programmable thermostat as it can automatically adjust the temperature when there are no people in the room. This may cost you a lot, but in the long run, you are actually saving more.
