Make sure your outdoor signs are working for you, not against you.
LED signs are one of the most effective ways to advertise a business to passing customers, but not all locations are created equal. If you're thinking about where to put up your business’ scrolling LED sign and want it to be as effective as possible, consider these different spots:
At eye level
If your business has a window display, putting up your LED sign at eye level ensures that passersby can easily spot them. You don’t have to overload your glass window with your LED screens, as one or two would be enough.
Now you might wonder about the best types of business LED signs to display by your storefront. Sale signs are a good choice, especially those that announce discount days and product promos. Informational signages such as LED open signs or those that show your operational hours are a good bet.
Because they’re meant to be seen from the outside, make sure to keep them clear from any obstructions like trees, which could get in the way of your sign's message. Likewise, It should be visible in all weather conditions—sunny, cloudy, rainy, or snowy—so that customers can always find you no matter what time of day it is or how bad the weather gets outside. Check also that it's visible from a distance so that people don't have to walk too far before finding what they're looking for.
Off the ground
There are options if you want to put up a sign on the side of your company's building. If you're looking to have a sign that stands out from other businesses in the area, consider putting it up off the ground.
LED signs can be displayed on poles that are set in place on concrete or platforms made of metal or wood. These types of poles will require some kind of mounting device attached to them—either directly below where the sign will sit, or at an angle attached to its side so that it won't fall over when the wind picks up.
On a wall at the side of your building
Not all LED displays come in the same sizes. In fact, there’s actually a wide range of digital signages available in the market today. There are those such as scrolling LED signs that are small and meant to be displayed indoors, and then there are those that come in large sizes, reminiscent of those you see in Times Square. For those types, a great place to showcase them is on the side of your building. If you have a business that has a lot of traffic and people moving in and out, this can be an excellent place to put up an LED sign. It will help draw attention to your business from all angles, especially if there are several buildings around yours that all look pretty much the same.
You can also do this by putting two signs on either side of your building: one for customers coming in at night and one for customers who are driving by during the day. This will not only grab their attention but make them remember what they saw when they were driving by later so that the next time they see it again, it will remind them where they saw the sign before.
Important things to remember when putting up your business LED signs outdoors:
Watch out for obstructions
Signages that are on display outdoors are much more prone to have problems with objects obstructing them from the public’s view. You should make sure that the sign is visible from the road and sidewalk, as most people who are driving or walking will not be able to see their true colors otherwise. For your advertising investment not to go to waste, make sure there are no structures or elements that will prevent people from fully seeing your LED signs.
Secure the necessary permits with the local government
Different places will have different laws, so if you don’t want to get yourself in trouble, make sure you are complying with the rules and regulations for outdoor signages in your area.
Test out locations before putting up your signs
You can try seeing for yourself how the public will view your outdoor signs through tests and observation. One way to do this is to stand from a distance and check for your sign’s visibility. You may then choose to see the same display from different angles and spots to make sure they are placed where they can be seen from multiple locations.
Ensure that the viewers have ample time to read your message
Once you’ve checked your sign’s visibility from a distance, the next step is to see how your digital display will work up close. Let’s say you have a scrolling LED sign on showcase by your storefront—are you sure passersby can actually read the text scrolling across the screen?
By observing how long viewers stop to see and read your sign, you can find out if the scrolling text on the screen is actually reaching its target audience. You may inevitably turn away folks because of the long-winded copy on display on your screen. On the other hand, text that is too short may not be able to convey its intended message to the public.
There are many different outdoor locations for a business LED sign that will work well, so long as people can see it and it is in a safe location, then you have a successful signage campaign on your hands.
